Happy New Year

OK, OK....today's January 5th, mas ainda posso desejar HAPPY NEW YEAR pra todos vocês.

Falando em NEW YEAR, é sempre nessa época que aparecem as famosas promessas de ano novo. Que tal deixar as promessas de lado e começar a executar seus planos?

É o que chamamos de RESOLUTIONS.

As RESOLUTIONS servem pra nos motivar a alcançar nossos objetivos no novo ano, alguns exemplos são:

1) Go to the gym

2) Change job

3) Go back to school

4) Spend more time with family/friends

5) Make new friends

6) Change appearance

7) Learn a foreign language

8) Visit new places, and etc.

Se você ainda não fez a sua Resolution List, pare e pense antes do Carnaval, afinal the year has just started ;D

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Hello everybody!

My today's text is going to talk about this special day and how people celebrate it.

December 25th, everybody knows that we celebrate Christmas. But what is it???

Everyone knows that today is the day when we celebrate Jesus Christ's birth and we all should be at church celebrating the One who gave his life to save us.

Unfortunately, most people just remember this day to drink, eat and have fun. Most of them even forget their family, friends and they totally forget about Jesus...

On the other hand, the ones who don't forget the meaning of this day, use to make big and special meetings at home with their family, exchanging gifts and having a great time with family. Most of them use to go to the church to celebrate Jesus =)

Today I wish you a very good and special day, I really hope you enjoy it with Jesus by your side and, of course, all your family and friends with you.

Quem nunca ouviu falar sobre THANKSGIVING?

But, what is THANKSGIVING?

O Thanksgiving é um feriado celebrado na última quinta-feira do mês de novembro in the United States, e na segunda segunda-feira do mês de outubro in Canada.

O thanksgiving ou dia de ação de graças, é o dia em que os povos agradecem pelos bons feitos ocorridos durante o ano. O evento surgiu quando the US ainda era New England, como um festival de agradecimento a Deus pela colheita anual. Os nativos (índios) ajudaram os novos habitantes da terra.

Nowadays, o Thanksgiving é celebrado com uma ceia (parecida com a de Natal) e os principais símbolos são o peru e o milho.

Family and Friends se reunem para agradecerem sobre as coisas boas que conquistaram durante o ano.

This year,o Thanksgiving está sendo celebrado hoje, November 25th.

I'm going to travel next month!

Hey everybody!!!

Today, falarei de um assunto simples, mas que tem deixado alguns alunos com algumas dúvidas: o FUTURE with BE GOING TO.

BE GOING TO é um auxiliary verb que mostrará que a sentença está no futuro. Esse auxiliar indica, ainda, que é futuro planejado.

I - am going to - travel - next month. (Eu viajarei no próximo mes.)

pronoun - auxiliary verb - main verb - time expression

O auxiliary verb não tem tradução, logo entenderemos que o MAIN VERB expressa a ação no futuro.

Como esse auxiliary é formado por BE+GOING TO, o BE terá de ser combinado com o pronome que o precede. Assim, teremos:

I am going to travel. (I'm...)

You are going to travel. (You're...)

He is going to travel. (He's...)

She is going to travel. (She's...)

It is going to rain. (It's...)

We are going to travel. (We're...)

You are going to travel. (You're...)

They are going to travel. (They're...)

Para formarmos a negative, acrescentaremos NOT logo após o BE:

I'm not going to go to the beach. (Eu não irei à praia.)

For questions, como já vimos, o BE virá before the pronoun:

Are you going to travel? Yes, I am. / No, I'm not. (Você viajará? Sim, eu irei. / Não, eu ierei.)

When are you going to travel? I'm going to travel next month. (Quando você viajará? Eu viajarei no próximo mes.)

So, quando quiserem expressar o futuro planejado, não se esqueçam do BE GOING TO.
